Ice Dye Workshop October (Saturday 21 and 28), 2023
Participants will explore methods of ice dyeing on fabric samples and plant-based yarns using Dye Over Ice during day 1 Saturday, October 21 11 am-4pm EST. Following presentation and demonstration, participants will plan and dye a color palette using one of 40 plus color palettes found in the workshop monograph using fiber reactive dyes including at least one dye color that splits on fabric samples and yarn. Variations can be planned by substituting some of your own dyes for exploration. The new ice dye workshop monograph is available to participants only and is included in the workshop registration.
In Day 2 session on Saturday, October 28 11 am-4pm, we will analyze your fabric and yarn samples and discuss building value and additional colors to build your yarn color palette following a DUI and DOI demonstration using gravity with a rack and a deep dye tub with warp yarns. Participants will have the opportunity to dye during the workshop with feedback using this method.
Requirements: Willingness to use fiber reactive dyes palettes, two different ice dye methods, and 4.5 yards of 5/2 Cotton/Tencel OR 8/2 Cotton/Tencel. no prior dyeing experience necessary.
