Switching out your Yarn provides new color exploration
I love the interaction of color and fiber! My work focuses on using a lot of space dyed warps. Fall is my favorite season …the turning leaves, the cool air and excitement of football games in a Friday night and the anticipation of the holiday season.
On my design table are two space-dyed warps by Kathrin Weber: Sun-Kissed 5/2 Tencel, Aloha 8/2 Tencel and a couple of skeins. A friend had gifted me some tussah silk (turquoise) from Jane Stafford Textiles-hand-dyed and the tussah silk originally from Switzerland. Another skein thrown in the mix is the Cinnamon Tencel dyed by Teresa Ruch Designs. All of these fibers make for a beautiful combination that is lightweight.
So one look is complete, but I’ve still got a few yards left and I’ve decided to get a different color look by switching out the silk turquoise for some wisteria 8/2 Tencel - a leftover Warp I have from Kathrin Weber. Now I’ll be working with three space-dyed warps. I carefully unwind and tie-on the remnant warp to the ends I’m replacing and pull the new yarn through the reeds and heddles. Rebeaming is easy and I’ll use the yarns I took out for scraps in another project. Of course this will provide opportunity for a different weft color and I find a variegated Tencel to complement with hues of purple and blue.
These two scarves will be available in my SHOP later this month!
